Wassily KANDINSKY
.Wassily KANDINSKY was born on December 16, 1866 in Moscow, but he spent his childhood in Odessa.
He enrolled at the University of Moscow where he studied law and economy.
At the age of 30, he decided to study painting.
This Russian painter was also an art theorist.
He is considered as one of the greatest artists of the XXth century, in the ranks of Picasso and Matisse, for example.
He is one of the founders of abstract art.
He is generally considered as the creator of the first non-figurative work in the history of modern art due to a watercolor from 1910, labelled as « abstract ».
A certain number of elements immediately stand out in Kandinsky’s works, while others are more discreet, as if they were veiled.
They only reveal themselves progressively, to those who make the effort of deepening their rapport with the artwork.
Therefore, the spectator must not stop at first impressions, nor at a vulgar identification of the shapes that the artist used, for he subtly brought them into harmony so that they may efficiently resonate with the spectator.
Kandinsky passed away at Neuilly-sur-Seine on December 13, 1944.
