LES BAGNARDS DU CANAL DE NANTES A BREST
BRITANNY CONVICTS
Between 1822 and 1832, hundreds of convicts will dig during 9 years, a trench 3.2 kilometers long, 100 meters wide and 23 meters deep, allowing the junction of the two sides of Aulne and Blavet.
This is the greatest escape of prisoners of the history, but also the life in Glomel camp –a small town in Côtes d'Armor - thanks to many testimonies of those involved in this great epic. In this huge challenge more than a hundred persons died, but it allowed a real economic upturn in Brittany in the early 19th century like "the Siberia of Brittany." This film is adapted from two books written by Jean Kergrist - author of about fifteen books: tales, novels and essays.
