Edouard VUILLARD ET Pierre BONNARD
Très tôt, Pierre BONNARD éprouve un grand intérêt pour le dessin et la couleur.
Il suit les cours de l'Académie Julian et est admis à l'École des beaux-arts de Paris, où il rencontre Vuillard, de qui il se rapproche.
Ils entretinrent une très grande complicité artistique, et une amitié véritablement fraternelle.
Passionnés de littérature, de théâtre et de musique, Bonnard et Vuillard partagèrent tout: le même goût des découvertes, de la liberté et de l'indépendance.
Artistes postimpressionnistes, Bonnard et Vuillard firent partie du groupe artistique des Nabis. Ce mouvement artistique postimpressionniste d’avant-garde, né à la fin du XIXème siècle.
Basé sur l’esthétique du mouvement Arts & Crafts, qui a pour but d'abolir les frontières entre les arts majeurs et mineurs; et de faire pénétrer l’art dans le cadre de la vie quotidienne.
Très intéressé par la vogue du japonisme, Bonnard est particulièrement marqué par sa conception différente de la perspective et de l’espace. Il reçoit alors le surnom de « Nabi japonard ».
Il semble trouver sa voie dans un retour à un certain impressionnisme, introduisant le mystère dans l'apparence visible.
Il représente de nombreux nus, tous de Marthe, son modèle qui deviendra sa femme, auxquels il associe des motifs de son quotidien (jardin, fruits).
Edouard VUILLARD lui, s'illustre dans la peinture de figure français, de portrait, d'intérieur, de nature morte, et de scènes intimistes.
Il s'intéresse surtout aux natures mortes réalistes et aux intérieurs domestiques; où figure sa mère de nombreuses fois.
La douce atmosphère de ces scènes de la vie un sujet de prédilection,le qualifient comme un artiste « intimiste ».

He took classes at the Académie Julian and was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he met Vuillard, whom he was getting closer to.
They maintained a great artistic complicity, and a truly fraternal friendship. Passionate about literature, theater and music, Bonnard and Vuillard shared everything: the same taste for discoveries, freedom and independence.
Post-impressionist artists, Bonnard and Vuillard were part of the artistic group of the Nabis.
