Mettre le pied à La Havane c’est remonter le temps depuis la grande histoire de la flibuste et le passé colonial, jusqu’aux dernières décennies marquées par la Révolution.
Des années 50, La Havane a conservé les belles voitures américaines qui défilent le long du Malecon et le souvenir d’Ernest HEMINGWAY.
On trouve encore ses bars favoris (le Floridita, la Bodeguita Del Medio), son bateau le Pilar, sa chambre à l'hôtel AmbosMundos, sa maison la FincaVigia qui évoquent cet âge d’or, où Ava Garner se baigna nue dans la piscine.
L’écrivain s’inspira d’un pêcheur de Cojimar à proximité de La Havane, pour la trame de son prix Nobel : « Le vieil homme et la mer ». Son bar favori « La terraza » témoigne encore de la présence de cet illustre personnage.
Dans les années 50, les parrains de la Mafia et le tout Hollywood se croisent dans les couloirs de « l’hôtel Nacional » ou au Tropicana, encore aujourd’hui le plus grand cabaret au monde en plein air.
A cette chronologie, il faut ajouter quelques ingrédients intemporels : les fameux cigares Partagaset le rhum Baccardi, le sable fin des Playas Del Este !
Stepping foot in Havana is like taking a historic tour; from the great stories of buccaneering and the colonial era, through to the turbulence of recent years, brandished by the fever of Revolution.
From the 1950s, Havana has retained both the beautiful American cars which parade along the Malecon, and its memories of Ernest HEMINGWAY.
You can still visit his favourite bars (La Floridita, la Bodeguita Del Medio), his boat, the Pilar, his room at the hotel Ambos Mundos, and his house ‘La FincaVigia’ which brings back memories of a golden age when Ava Garner would go skinny dipping in his swimming pool.
It was a fisherman from Cojimar, not far from Havana, who inspired the narrative of his Nobel Prize winning book « The Old Man and the Sea ».
His favourite bar « La terraza » is still marked by the memory of this illustrious character.
In the 50s, mafia godfathers and Hollywood stars would mingle in the corridors of the « hotel Nacional » or at the Tropicana, which is still to this day the largest outdoor cabaret in the world.
To this scant Cuban chronology, we have to add a few timeless ingredients: the famous Partagas cigars, Bacardi Rhum, the white sands of the Playas Del Este !
