Les plus grands peintres du monde : Bonnard-Vuillard ( The greatest painters of the world : Bonnard-Vuillard)

 VUILLARD6

Very early on, Pierre BONNARD was admitted to the Paris School of Fine Arts, where he met Edouard VUILLARD.

They maintained a very great artistic complicity, and a truly fraternal friendship.

Post-impressionist artists, Bonnard and Vuillard were part of the Nabis, an avant-garde post-impressionist artistic movement born at the end of the 19th century.

Pierre Bonnard, who was very interested in the vogue of Japonism, received the nickname of "Nabi japonard".

He seems to find his way back to a certain impressionism, introducing mystery into the visible appearance.

He represents many nudes, all of Martha, his model who will become his wife, to which he associates motifs from his daily life (garden, fruits).

Edouard VUILLARD, for his part, illustrates himself in the painting of figures, portraits, interiors, still life and intimate scenes.

He is especially interested in domestic interiors, where his mother appears many times.

The soft atmosphere of these scenes of daily life, which he makes a favourite subject, qualifies him as an "intimate" artist.
