Sonia DELAUNAY est la pionnière de l’abstraction. Tandis que Robert Delaunay conceptualise l’abstraction comme un langage universel.
Sonia Delaunay est adepte de l'art total et expérimente les supports les plus variés: tableaux,
projets d’affiches, vêtements, reliures, objets domestiques.
Son passage en Espagne et au Portugal correspond à un premier développement de ses activités dans les domaines du théâtre et de la mode qu’elle commercialise à Madrid dès 1918, puis à son retour à Paris dans les années 1920
La décennie suivante marque l’épanouissement d’une abstraction épurée, caractéristique du style international.
Elle jouera le rôle de « passeur » entre la génération des pionniers de l’abstraction et celle des années 50.
En effet dès l’après-guerre, la peinture de Sonia Delaunay connaît un profond renouvellement qui culmine, à la fin des années 1960, dans un art abstrait intensément poétique.
Sa créativité formelle et technique s’exprime alors dans des œuvres monumentales (peinture, mosaïque, tapis, tapisserie) et son œuvre tardive connaît un ultime essor dans les albums d’eaux-fortes et les éditions Artcurial.
Sonia DELAUNAY was the pioneer while Robert Delaunay conceptualize abstract as a universal language.
She was a follower of the total art and experimented all kind of support (paintings, poster projects, clothing, binders, household objects).
Her time in Spain and Portugal was a first development of her activities in the fields of theater and fashion, that she sold in Madrid in 1918 and when she returned to Paris in the 1920s.
The next decade marked the development of a refined abstract characteristic of the international style.
She played the role of ”giver” between the generation of the pioneers of abstract and the postwar generation.
From the post-war, Sonia Delaunay’s painting knows a profound renewal that culminates in the late 1960s, in an intensely poetic abstract art.
Het formal and technical creativity is then expressed in monumental works (painting, mosaic, tapestry) and her late work iencing a boom in the last albums of eaux-fortes and Artcurial editions.
